Work experience students help fight rising demand in supermarkets

Young people on Team Programme are completing work experience in a local Tesco store to gain vital skills and help quell rising demand amid stockpiling.

Harvey, 17, applied to a Tesco store in Felixstowe to complete his work experience placement as part of our Team Programme personal development course. Since starting at the store, Harvey has restocked shelves and offered a helping hand to staff who have been inundated with shoppers amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

Harvey has also been joined by fellow Team Programme participant, Sean, after his work experience placement fell through due to COVID-19 concerns.

Both learners have had excellent feedback praising their work ethic and initiative in keeping up with supply and demand.

Sean explained, “As my work placement was cancelled, I wanted to volunteer as an extra pair of hands. Although it’s busy, I’m enjoying the challenge.”

Team Programme is one of Suffolk’s most successful courses aimed at young people aged 16-25, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to gain confidence and enter work, education or further training.

The boys’ Personal Development Tutor, Carly Churchman said, “I have never seen either of them as happy as they are! They are supporting the community and gaining a wealth of knowledge along the way.”
