Our Ipswich Team programme are preparing to take their next steps

As our young people get closer to finishing their Prince’s Trust Team programme they are starting to look at the skills they will need for their next steps. This week our young people in Ipswich have been perfecting their CV with the help of the National Careers Service as well as having a visit from Tom McGarry from EDF Energy.

The National Careers Service offered their expertise and knowledge to the young people, helping them to perfect their CVs, ace job applications and how to prepare for interviews. These are all such valuable skills that our young people have been able to gain and will certainly use when taking their next steps.

Josh a young person on our programme told us that he found the session with the National Careers Service really helpful and has managed to make his CV much better. He hopes his CV and skills learnt in the session will help improve his chances when taking his next steps.

The young people also took part in mock interviews hosted by Inspire’s Deputy Educations Programmes Manger Naomi Thompson and Tom McGarry who is Head of Stakeholder Engagement at Sizewell C (EDF). The young people found these mock interviews really beneficial giving them knowledge of what to expect when going to an interview.

Tom McGarry – Head of Stakeholder Engagement, Sizewell C said: ‘It was a really rewarding experience to be able to help Inspire and conduct some mock interviews with the very talented young people on the programme. The skills the team learn need to be tested in a practical setting. Mock interviews help those taking part learn to communicate in what can be a stressful situation. It also shows the value of good preparation and helps to build confidence. Ultimately, they will be in front of a real employer one day. They deserve the chance to demonstrate their skills after their hard work and I hope what they have learnt from the experience will help them secure their jobs and early ambitions.’

The young people were able to get a feel as to what a real life interview will be like, many of whom have never had an interview before. Matt a young person on the programme told us that he found the day extremely useful and will deferentially be able to use this next time I have an interview. I know what to work on now and how to improve my chances of getting a job.
