WE WON! Stowmarket Community Project triumphs at Stars of Mid Suffolk & Babergh Awards

Last night was the first Stars of  Babergh & Mid Suffolk Awards hosted at St. Mary’s Church in Hadleigh and our Stowmarket Prince’s Trust Team programme was shortlisted for the Community Project Award! The Team was nominated for their hard work at the Museum of East Anglian Life in March 2018 to improve the grounds following a break-in and vandalism earlier in the year.

A selection of the Team attended the Awards Ceremony with our Team Leader Jacob and WON THE AWARD! Congratulations to everyone involved in the project and thank you to the Museum of East Anglian Life for allowing our young people to support you!

They spent a week working hard at the museum, digging a pathway and filling it out with wood chippings which is now being used by the local community as a pathway through the museum, and moving 8 tons of shingle by wheelbarrow to level out the pathways in the walled garden and painting the picnic benches for the café and more. They also wanted to make a good name for young people, since they get such a bad reputation these days!

As part of our Prince’s Trust Team programme, our young people plan, fundraise and take on a project to benefit the local community. This helps with a whole range of confidence and skills building including working as a Team, planning a project, finding your strengths and weaknesses and gives a great experience to talk about at interviews!

The museum was really pleased and Heather who takes care of the gardens was overwhelmed with the hard work and effort put in by the team who pulled together really well to get the job done.

Here they are in action at the project…
