Local school children take part in QuadKids U9 competition

4 July 2017

Alongside Ipswich & South Suffolk School Games, we were delighted to host a QuadKids athletics event to over three hundred Year 3 and 4 children from 32 local primary schools at Inspire this week.

QuadKids is a competition which centres around four core disciplines; running, throwing, jumping and sprinting with points scored for each athlete in each event to give an overall winning team.

Each school was allocated a country to represent in the competition and encouraged to fancy dress. Flags, facepaint and costumes in tow, the groups gathered for an Olympic style opening ceremony to start the day which was a brilliant start to the day. Each group showed sportsmanship, enthusiasm and fair play throughout the day with Sidegate Primary School coming first overall, with Heath Primary in second and Britannia Primary in third place.

We were supported on the day by our Sports Coaches and Apprentices who have helped many of the primary school sports events this year and 30 Sports Leaders from Westbourne Academy and Copleston High School who all worked really hard motivating the children.

Andy Crump, Programmes Director at Inspire says:

“We have already witnessed the talent and enthusiasm that local children have to play sport across a number of our events this year and QuadKids was no different. It was a privilege for Inspire to host over 300 children testing their skills in four disciplines. Everyone who took part gave it their absolute all and enjoyed a fantastic day of athletics!”

Ali Furlong, School Games Organiser says:

“It was a wonderful afternoon and to see so many children enjoying the event. I’m also very grateful to Waitrose for their continued support of our competition, providing refreshments for all. We look forward to doing more partnership events with Inspire next year.”

It was a great day with fun had by all – we look forward to seeing lots of the schools again in the coming year at lots of other events. Thanks for a great day!
